A workshop for students who have taken one of Naomi’s “Intro to Block Printing” Workshops at Know Future, by invitation only! The goal of this workshop is to teach you how to create block prints using block printing ink and hand-burnishing techniques easily at home:

Learn the nuances of carving for printing with block printing ink and how to hand-burnish (print) your designs with a baren. During the workshop, we will plan and illustrate art for your 4” x 6” soft block, carve blocks using your artwork, practice printing single color prints with block printing inks, and discuss various methods and tools you can utilize for printing your blocks. Naomi will be bringing a variety of ink colors to try and her Woodzilla press for you to experiment with too! With our small workshop size of 4 students maximum, there will be plenty of time to talk with Naomi one on one about your art, techniques (including 2-color gradients!), and any questions you may have.

Required: Please bring your own lino cutter tool and gouges to the workshop!

Optional: Bring in any carved blocks you would like to try printing with (as time allows) and if you have specific tools (brayer, baren, etc.) you have already purchased, you’re welcome to use them during the workshop.

Other Notes:

- The workshop fee includes materials and shared tools we will be using during the workshop: water-soluble block printing ink, 4” x 6” Speedball Speedy Carve Block, tracing paper, printing paper, barens, brayers, expendables, etc. 

- At the workshop Naomi will provide a list of recommended materials you can easily purchase at Michael’s or Blick so you can continue with your block printing journey at home!

- Weather permitting, we will be outside, in the courtyard.
